100% Club Spotlight Briggs and Morgan has established a progressive environment for women's pursuit of success in the legal profession. Women lawyers enjoy fulfilling careers at Briggs and regularly advance to partnership levels. They serve as firm officers, Board members, Section Chairs, Practice Group Chairs, and Committee Chairs. Briggs supports the many lawyers involved in bar associations, pro bono, educational, political, and community organizations. In addition to supporting women's leadership roles within the firm and the community, Briggs promotes public dialogue about women's issues. The firm has been a series sponsor of the St. Catherine Forum on Women in Leadership since 1996, presenting such notable speakers as Charlayne Hunter-Gault, Cokie Roberts, Elizabeth Dole, Yolanda King, Sally Ride, Alice Walker and Jane Bryant-Quinn. In the fall of 2001, Briggs sponsored a dinner featuring former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright to benefit Minnesota Advocates for Human Rights and currently sponsors a monthly MAHR lecture series addressing such topics as women's rights and U.S. foreign policy, women's human rights law, and domestic violence. Brigid McDonough is one of the many women lawyers at the firm who balances an active practice with community involvement. Brigid serves as Secretary of the firm and is a member of the Board of Directors. She is Associate Chair of the St. Paul DFL and on the Minnesota State DFL Central Committee. Trudy Halla is very active in bar associations and the community. A former Hennepin County Bar Association President, Trudy continues on the HCBA and MSBA Boards and in the ABA's House of Delegates. She has served on the MSBA Executive Committee and the Boards of the Hennepin County Bar Foundation, Volunteer Lawyers Network, National Association of Bond Lawyers and the Minneapolis YWCA. Trudy is a Director of the Western Golf Association and on the Board of the Minikahda Club. She is a past Briggs Vice President, Secretary and Board member. Other women shareholders are active in the bar as well. Sally Scoggin represents Ramsey County on the MSBA Board and co-chairs the Judiciary Committee for the RCBA. Andrea Bond, Chair of the firm's Financial Institutions and Real Estate Section, has served as Vice Chair of the U.C.C. Committee of the Business Law Section of the MSBA. Andrea is a past Briggs Vice President and Board member. The firm pays MWL membership dues for all women lawyers. Ann Huntrods is a former MWL President who remains very active in community organizations. Ann is a past Chair of the Board of Directors of the Saint Paul Foundation, a current Board member of the Minnesota Foundation and Past President of the U of M Alumni Association. For her many years of service to the U of M Alumni Association, Ann was awarded the highest volunteer service award the University confers upon alumni. Ann is a past Briggs Secretary and Board member. Another former Board Member of MWL, Karin Wille founded and co-chaired the first Employment Law Institute, co-sponsored by Minnesota CLE and the Twin Cities Human Resources Association. Karin once chaired Briggs' Labor and Employment Section, now Chairs the firm's Employment Law Training Practice Group and Co-Chairs the Employment Counseling Practice Group with Ann Huntrods. Carolyn Nestingen, Chair of the firm's Employee Benefits Practice Group and the Employee Benefits Committee, serves on several nonprofit boards including the Lyngblomsten Foundation and LRAP. There are many other women lawyers with leadership positions in the firm, including Karna Berg, Chair of the Intellectual Property Section, Mary Dyrseth, Chair of the Public Finance Section, and Mary Ippel, a past Chair of the Public Finance Section and past Briggs Secretary and Board member.
