For more than two decades, Moss & Barnett has been a leader in supporting the growth of women attorneys. In 1997, Moss & Barnett appointed Ann K. Newhall as president and managing partner of the firm. As one of the first firms in the area to have a woman in this leadership position, Moss & Barnett set the stage for advancement opportunities for women attorneys. During her tenure at Moss & Barnett, Ann played an integral role in rallying women attorneys at the firm to become involved with Minnesota Women Lawyers. It is because of Ann’s work that Moss & Barnett became a member of the Minnesota Women Lawyers 100% Club. Ann’s legacy of supporting women attorneys continues today and has only become stronger. Moss & Barnett understands the challenge of balancing personal and professional duties. For this reason, employees are offered flexible work hours and arrangements to accommodate the needs of working parents. In addition, women attorneys at Moss & Barnett enjoy rewarding careers and commonly become shareholders. Moss & Barnett is fortunate to have five women shareholders including Susan C. Rhode, Nancy M. Kiskis, Deanne M. Greco, M. Cecilia Ray and Janna R. Severance. Joining the firm in 1987, Susan Rhode has since become a key component of the firm’s success. She has established herself as a leader in the family law group and has served as a member of the board of directors since 1999. Susan’s dedication to family law and the entire legal profession has been recognized by her inclusion as one of the Best Lawyers in America, Leading Minnesota Attorneys and a Super Lawyer. She is an active member of the Hennepin County and Minnesota State Bar Associations and many other community organizations. Nancy Kiskis’ career path is unique and exemplifies the commitment Moss & Barnett makes to its employees. Joining the firm as a secretary in 1974, Nancy quickly developed an interest in advancing her legal career. Her determination and dedication to the legal profession took her through law school and up the ranks at Moss & Barnett, where she has been an attorney since 1989. Nancy is a true leader in the Trusts and Estates practice group and in the entire legal community. In addition to the American, Minnesota and Hennepin County Bar Associations, Nancy is a member of the Minnesota State Bar Foundation Board of Directors and serves as the Chair of the Foundation’s Investment Committee. Deanne Greco is one of many women at the firm who balance professional life and community service. As an experienced corporate law attorney, Deanne has been an essential member of the Moss & Barnett team since 1994. Throughout her career, Deanne has held leadership positions in many organizations including her time as president and director of the Legal Aid Society of Minneapolis and Mid-Minnesota Legal Assistance, Inc. Deanne also offers her knowledge and expertise through lectureship series and other educational settings. Deanne is currently is member of the Ordway Circle of Stars board of directors. M. Cecilia Ray is a true leader in the firm, where she counsels clients on telecommunications law, utility regulation, commercial real estate and business law. Cecilia is an active member of the American, Minnesota and Hennepin County Bar Associations. In addition to her professional career, Cecilia has been offering her services through the Volunteer Lawyers Network. For ten years, Cecilia has been a member of the organization and continues to provide legal advice to unprivileged individuals who seek assistance with real estate law. Chosen as a Super Lawyer in 2002, Janna Severance is a vital member of the business law practice group at Moss & Barnett. Her outstanding dedication to her career has enabled her to become a leader in her profession and community. Janna is currently the head of a subsection of the Hennepin County Bar Association for Business, Corporations and Franchising. In addition, she serves as a member of the board of directors of the Older Women’s League of Minnesota and is a member of the board of directors of Presbyterian Homes & Services of Minnesota. In addition to these shareholders, Moss & Barnett has many exceptional women associate attorneys. Each continues to be an important part of the success of the entire firm and are individually active in their own communities and professional organizations. Jerrie M. Hayes, an attorney in civil litigation and appeals, is just one example of the high caliber associate attorneys at Moss & Barnett. Jerrie was recently elected as Chair of the Hennepin County Bar Association’s New Lawyer Section, the largest segment of the organization. In addition, Jerrie has assumed leadership roles with the American and Minnesota Bar Associations and is active in several other community organizations.
