Award Recognition and Nominations In the effort to increase the visibility of its membership, MWL is pleased to post information on award and recognition opportunities in the legal community and the community at large. We hope this effort will not only increase visibility of the countless MWL members who are doing great work across the state, but also encourage others to get involved in their communities and aspire to the highest ideals of the legal profession. Submit a general award or special recognition announcement to be posted on the MWL website Submit a nomination for an MWL Award (As MWL periodically submits award nominations on behalf of the organization, we welcome nominee suggestions from our membership). ---------------------------- MWL Congratulates its 35th Annual Meeting Award Recipients! 2007 Service to MWL Award Recipients: Judith Oakes is a Founding Mother and Sustaining Member of MWL and has been an active member for over 35 years. She is a partner at J. Oakes & Associates. Carrie Daniel is Corporate Counsel at Graco, Inc., and has been an MWL member for over six years. Cynthia Eidnes is Senior Sales Director at Kelly Law Registry and has been an MWL member for over 13 years. Karen Reierson is Corporate Counsel at Starkey Laboratories, Inc., and is a Diamond Level Sponsor of MWL. She has been involved with MWL for over four years. Kate Westad is an attorney at Lommen Abdo law firm, and has been a member for two years. In its seventh year, the Service to MWL
Award recognizes an MWL member, group of members or 100% club member whose
efforts have contributed substantially to advance MWL’s mission. MWL was
pleased to recognize them with the 2007 Service to MWL Award. MWL was pleased to present the 2007 Equal Justice Award to Shawn Stuckey for his paper entitled “Decreasing the Accessibility to Criminal History Records to Diminish the Devastating Impacts of Collateral Effects on African Americans in Minnesota.” Mr. Stuckey is a second year law student at the University of St. Thomas School of Law. He is Co-Chair of the legal redress committee of the St. Paul Chapter of the NAACP and a member of the executive board of directors for the St. Paul Chapter of the NAACP. Shawn has another published article discussing critical race theory in the Atlantic Marketing Association’s Journal. Additionally, Shawn was awarded the Dean’s Award at the University of St. Thomas School of Law for this article. MWL congratulated Mr. Stuckey on being selected the recipient of the 2007 Equal Justice Award. Each year, the Equal Justice Award is presented to a Minnesota law student that has written an article or essay that addresses an important legal and social issue of justice and equality. 2007 Myra Bradwell Award Recipient: Trudy Halla, shareholder and long-time MWL
member and volunteer, has practiced law for more than 30 years. In the twin
cities, she started with Briggs and Morgan in 1978 and entered the area of
public finance law, where she served in a management capacity as public finance
section chair, a member of the executive committee, and as vice president and
secretary of the board of directors. She has been a tireless volunteer and
leader for the Hennepin County Bar Association, Hennepin County Bar Foundation,
Minnesota Bar Association, Minnesota Women Lawyers, Volunteer Lawyers Network,
National Association of Bond Lawyers, American Bar Association, National
Conference of Bar Presidents, and the National Conference of Women’s Bar
Associations. She has served on or led no fewer than 31 different committees,
councils, task forces and delegations for these associations - a culmination of
decades of service, with many back-to-back and concurrent roles. The Myra
Bradwell Award is presented to an MWL member who expresses the highest ideals of
the legal profession.MWL was pleased to recognize Trudy Halla for the 2007 Myra

Submitting an award announcement to be Posted: In the effort to increase the visibility of its membership, MWL is pleased to post information on award and recognition opportunities in the legal community and the community at large. Please note the following requirements when submitting an award announcement: 1. All award announcements must be submitted via e-mail (in the body of the e-mail or as a Microsoft Word attachment) to dpexa@mwlawyers.org. 2. Award announcements must include (at minimum): a) A summary of the award and criteria; b) a description of the information required to complete the nomination; and c) contact information including the name of a specific contact person, organization name, address, phone number and e-mail address. A website with further information is also encouraged. 3. Award announcements must be submitted to MWL for posting at least four weeks prior to the award submission deadline. 4. Any requests that do not meet the above requirements will not be posted.
Submitting a nomination for an MWL Award: As MWL submits nominations for various awards on behalf of the organization, we welcome nominee suggestions from our membership. Member input allows MWL to submit nominations that better represent our diverse membership, as well as recognize the marvelous work that women attorneys are doing throughout the state. For Consideration as an “Official” MWL Award Nomination: 1). All nominees must be current members of MWL; 2). All submissions for MWL’s consideration must be completed as per the specific award criteria and provided to the MWL office at least two weeks prior to the award deadline. Incomplete nominations will not be accepted for consideration; 3). MWL’s Awards and Recognition Committee will review the submission. If accepted, the Committee will forward their recommendation to the MWL Board (and/or Executive Committee) for final approval. With Board approval, the nomination will then be submitted to the sponsoring entity as an official MWL award nomination. The decision of the Board (and/or Executive Committee) is final; 4). MWL will base its decision on a). the best qualified candidates; b). candidates that represent our diverse membership; c). the content and strength of the written nomination; and d). how many other nominations are received by MWL for a given award; 5.) If a nominee will not be forwarded on as an official MWL nomination, the person who submitted the nomination will be notified prior to the award deadline, allowing time for the nomination to be submitted independently.
