Minnesota Women Lawyers is pleased to introduce its 38th President, Megan J. Hertzler. In considering the year ahead, Megan states "I look forward to working with the many outstanding women of MWL to further our mission through deliberate action calculated to advance women lawyers and to strive toward a just society. In particular, my presidency will focus on efforts to inspire leadership for women and to elevate their status in the profession, by engaging women and men at all levels in a dialog on this issue and offering services to our members that support their advancement." Megan J. Hertzler is an Assistant General Counsel and Director of Data Privacy for Xcel Energy, a combination electricity and natural gas utility providing retail service in 8 Midwestern states with annual revenues in excess of $10 billion. Ms. Hertzler provides legal counsel and strategic advice to Xcel Energy on matters related to the management of data privacy and information security for the eight states in which it operates. Prior to joining Xcel Energy, she was associated with the law firm of Moss & Barnett, PA, a former Assistant Attorney General in the Minnesota Office of the Attorney General, and former counsel to the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission. Megan manages the law clerk programs for the Minneapolis and Eau Claire branches of the Office of General Counsel at Xcel Energy, is a past chair of its Employee Excellence and Equality Committee and sits on Xcel Energy's Workforce Council. She has twice received Xcel Energy's Individual of Excellence award. Megan has also been involved in the community as: a board member for the Minnesota Loan Repayment Assistance Program and the Urban Arts Academy; and as a volunteer for the University of St. Thomas School of Law Mentor Externship Program, William Mitchell College of Law Apprenticeship Program and Children’s Hospital of Minneapolis. Megan has a long history of involvement with Minnesota Women Lawyers, joining MWL as a law student in 1994. She is a former co-chair of the Community Action Committee and the Development Committee, as well as a mentor to students through MWL’s Student to Attorney mentor program. Megan also served as an MWL board member from 2005-2007, as its secretary from 2007-2008 and was elected to President-Elect in 2008. Megan is a 1997 graduate of William Mitchell College of Law, where she served as an Associate Editor on its law review. She lives with her husband, Aaron Gebauer in St. Paul, Minnesota where they maintain an extensive urban garden. ------------------------------
